Revamped and Improved

I needed a shelf over my tub to fill this ugly standard towel rack that was in a awkard place and not reachable from the shower. I headed out on many adventures to find the right shelf, size, color, depth, look etc. I event thought about making a shelf.

Well I went to Homegoods and found this shelf for $12.99. After much thought all it needed was paint and that we had.

I used the Hawthorn Gallery Beige from Lowes that was used in our bedroom. Thanks to my friend and co-worker, Manon, for sharing the paint color with me.

Giving a test run for placement it was too deep and stuck out beyond our shutters. I called my dad to see if he could use his miter saw to trim it down about 3 inches. Once again he pulls through with his smarts and tools.

The finish products looks perfect  in our bathroom.

My Second Home...

This summer has been a blast with my travels to yet again, California! I have claimed it my second home since I have spent a total of 2 weeks there this summer and I can navigate pretty much with out a map now!
This time we spent much more time inland visiting Temecula, the wine country about 40 minutes from where we were staying. Beautiful and breathtaking, Enjoyed 4 wineries and we shared wine tastings at each one.

After enjoying some delicious and decadent wines we had to stop and eat before we fell asleep in the middle of the vineyards. We stopped at the Ponte for a cheese platter and of course another shared sample of wines.

Sunday was a day at the African Safari Park with 900 acres of land for a one-of-a- kind zoo experience. We decided to ride the caravan truck into the safari to be close to the animals. Where else can you do that?! We feed giraffes and rhinos from our own hands and learned a great deal about these sweethearts.
She loved her apple and her nose rub!
"hmmm. whatca got there?"
He was super photogenic with his long eye lashes!
Monday after taking Chris to work I found myself back at my favorite spot and favorite beach, Torrey Pines State Reserve. It was more crowded than June for most of the peeps in Cali were in the peak of their summer and the sun is out in July. So I found myself a quieter place to lay my towel out and enjoy the sound of the waves crashing.

My last night there we ate at George's in LaJolla, the roof top restaurant is stunning and the food is to die for.  It over looks this area of the Cove with the rock and the seals.

I love him!

California it was nice this summer. Maybe I will see you again for a quick weekend trip this year. Until next summer, hold my reservation at the beach and keep growing the plump grapes.

Calling All Lovers of Decorating!

I am in the midst of creating or I should say recreating my kitchen, dinning area, and down stairs.
For the next DIY fixer upper is my little brown BROWN Brown corner that I hate! The floors are brown, the blinds are brown, the cabinets are brown, couch is brown etc.

This project calls for some input from YOU!!!! It would make for a popular TV show where the viewers get to have inputs/votes as to what happens in my house...I would call it "Mystery Makeover"So here is a go at our first season and Episode 1 :)
view looking into the brown kitchen
view from kitchen to the brown corner with 1 blue color
looking into open living room. Close up of table
colors in living room: yellow, gray, teal/aqua/navy, crimson/burnt orange, cream, brown,
I got our table from Linens n Things for a near $200 floor sample with some love and wear on it. I am not scared to paint it. A two-toned table sound pleasing to me.

Option 1: keep the stain on top dark
Option 2: lighter stain

Bottom of table choice
Option 1: paint the base creamy white
Option 2: paint the base black
Options 3: paint the base gray beige
Option 4: other (share what color)

For the chair options I want them to look like the below picture I found from A La Mode and I pinned it on Pinterest. Eventually I would love to find a banquette seat for the window side.
Option 1: slipcover to be in a natural linen
Option 2: natural white family

A rug is desperately needed to ground and pull everything together, don't you think? Since they are outrageously expensive a DIY rug project is much needed. A rug from IKEA and some paint will do the trick.
BUT what color do I need to ground the look from living to eating area?
Option 1: gray and cream
Option 2: beige and cream
Option 3: Navy and cream
Option 4: black and cream
Option 5: either a blue, teal, or aqua and cream
Option 6: no rug

The design of course is an eye capturing must
Option 1: chevron
Option 2: classic stripes
Option 3: medallion geometric shape

I am anxious and excited to hear every ones thoughts. Not sure how many readers I have, but I would be thrilled to see the quite readers come alive and leave your comments. Those that love to post comments here is another opportunity. Can't wait to show you the reveal before summer is over!

Let Freedom Ring!

July has finally approached the calendar of 2012. I like to consider it my birthday week. We enjoyed the week/end with some family, friends, redecorating projects, and America's Independence.

I decided to host the 4th of July at our house a little last minute since my parents were staying with us b/c the air conditioner went out perfect timing AC in the middle of selling their home and the heat of summer.
We needed some 4th of July spirit in our home. I needed simple and fast. Thinking to my sweet, sweet friend and cutest little party planner ever... Amanda L. I used Crepe paper Ruffles for streamers inside and out, Pennant flags for a couple of banners around the house, and mason jars as vases for flowers.

My title coasters made at Amanda's craft party fit perfectly!

Along with family and great summer time food we had
Angel Food birthday cake for dessert.  Just for your sake I will spare you a picture of myself blowing out the candle.
Mom makes all the birthday cakes, THANKS!

On my real birthday I received the best gift in the mail. My puppy's paw print from the vet's office arrived, keep in mind it was the only card, gift in the mail that day...just perfect.

This past weekend we headed to Rockport. It has been awhile that the family has gone to the beach together. We were three short of a complete family vacation, but we still had fun.
we are ready for the beach!
the kids and Chris about to take on the bay.
family snowball boat stop!
long day + boat ride = zzzz's
The boat's captain with snowball in hand
Since the guys didn't catch any keepers in the early morning, Chris and I headed out for some fishing on the kayak before dinner. What a great way to end the trip by catching a Black Drum!

Who Rescued Who?

Our Sadie Lady has taught us a lot about life in the years we had her. Today is a week that she has been playing care free in heaven at Rainbow Bridge. To the memories, legacy, joy, and love you left behind for us...

Seeing your picture in the sign in office at my work, I knew we were connected to you. I just had to convince your daddy to just meet you.
Driving to meet you, I was so nervous b/c I wanted you to like us. Your dad said if you were scared we would have to walk away. As we knocked on the door, the little/big head that peeped around the door was you! So anxious to see who was on the other side. You backed away a little, but I know you wanted to let us in and get settled before you did you thing. You had so many tricks to show us over and over again like how you constantly wanted to shake with us! Then your tail had the most adorable wag ever seen, it spun in a circle then zig-zag, then a circle, then the other way...you were about to take off with that tail of yours! We knew immediately you were ours. Just had to learn to shake on command.

Our first stop was at Petsmart and then Petco across the street. Just couldn't find the right collar and leash for you. Your bark startled us as you noticed another dog. We made a mental note and thought we would have to work on this bark towards other dogs, maybe Cesar would be the best option for us. After a $100 or so we headed home to set your toy, bone, treats, food, and bed up. This is where our journey together began...

-being walked by the bike with your dad you had so much energy
- loved to play Monkey in the Middle you were the monkey with your ball
- found out you didn't like to play fetch. Just didn't bring it back to play another round.
-enjoyed playing Keep Away from your mom or dad in the back yard and inside.
-Your first favorite toy was Hippo. The squeakier was a competition with your self, but you were so gentle with your animal.
- lavished in your grandpa's left over Dobash cake that was left on the counter and in a plastic bag.
- ate an entire box of chocolate left on the computer desk. Mommy was dumb
-when guest came over you had to be petted and show them your shake trick.
-learned to shake on command, lay down, and stay. Your already knew to sit and potty outside.
-the sound of your leash and collar made you anxious for your walk.
-you had a mohawk every time you saw a dog walk past you.
- how quickly you stopped barking or growling when we sprayed you with the water bottle. You immediately turned to a puppy who just wanted to say "hi" with your whining and grunting noises.
- the Cesar noise never worked on you, your daddy tried. You loved the noise your mommy would make, this loud obnoxious noise, but it worked every time. Dad was jealous that you listened to me more. ;-)
- daddy would wake up in the middle of the night panicked that you were on the bed, "Where is she!"
-one time you did sleep on our bed and you didn't budged so we could at least get comfortable. Daddy went to go pick you up in the complete darkness and you growled at him. I laughed! He was a scared little boy! I knew you just couldn't see and were scared too.
-You were on the logo for your dad's first brew.
- always so thoughtful with your gifts for birthdays, Christmas, and Mother/Fathers' Day. Just loved my back massager and cards.
-being protective of Ginger when Max and Shiloh came over. You sat them down and when one moved you told them to get back.
-The Bossy Lady was a nickname you acquired.
- the rhythm you created as you licked your paws in the middle of the night!!!
-the annoying sound of you trying to get settled in your room in the middle of the night!!
-learned to "Sit Pretty" from Ginger.
- how you could never relax in the car rides any where. Had to see everything go by.
-found your way to the dog park on your own.
- loved to go on walks so you could smell, smell, smell.
- enjoyed going to the dog park, but would rather smell then play. You put your two cents in here and there with the dogs.
- any bag sound you heard in the kitchen you thought was your treat.
-how you would lay near the kitchen to be close to us, you were very good at not going into the kitchen.
- loved following us from room to room
- the top of the stairs was one of your two spots you loved to lay.
- how you loved the front bedroom window to lay and to look out of. Doing your dog duty.
- placing your head on the windowsill and makeing the under the breath "bruff"
-mommy sharing the view from the windowsill with you.
-when we would watch TV or movies you start by laying near us then walk off to a quiet place.
- Monkey and Ele were your other two favorite animals.
-loved to lay your head on the bottom shelf of the coffee table
-your hot, warm breath on us as we relaxed on the couch.
-every time daddy and I hugged you wanted to join.
- putting on socks or shoes was your favorite part of the morning, "Gotta get in their faces."
-the sneezes you made after daddy put on his cologne.
-how you laid right outside the bathroom as we got ready.
-your Yoda ears!
-the twitches and noises you made as you were dreaming!
- You sang to the Ice Cream Truck Song with your whole heart!
-Discovering that you sang to that song from a Wendy's commercial.

-every time I tried to make your bed you walked right in before I could finish.
- any time there was a blanket on the floor you thought it was yours.
- sometimes your ear would stand up when you laid down. trying real hard to listen.
- when we would leave you free in the house you ended up on the couch. your evidence was left behind.
- we decided to put you in your room after that and you loved it.
- you didn't mind wearing costumes, or having clothes placed on your back.
- enjoyed eating your dad's work out gels and protein bars from his gym bag that was left in our bedroom. Thought we would be nice and let you roam our room. We gave you an inch you took a foot.
- Adored your grandpa and his attention.
-how you hated baths and the hose.
- you knew if you saw the hose on the patio you were getting a bath and wouldn't come outside.
- when I washed you in the bath tub by myself in the winter, I got the bath instead!
- how you had to go see every one that came in the house
- ran upstairs, downstairs, and to us when the door bell rang...never once barked but you were excited and couldn't figure out exactly where the sound came from.
- you helped your daddy choose to work at Petco Corporate office

- exhausted from going to work with your daddy
- helped make your doggy-travel-catch all hair cover for the car
- the pounds of under coat that came off when we brushed you
- when mommy would vacuum your hair, hours later there it was again.
- you came into the bathroom on your own terms, some times all the way to the other end!
- scampering off when daddy would say "Get in there" and point to the bathroom.
-when you "danced" with your daddy
- being a trooper as we hiked in the Davis Mountains.
- crashed underneath the smallest and only tree on the trail nearing the end, then Daddy having to carry you home!
-slept with us to keep us warm in the tent.
-alarming us of some creatures in our campsite in the middle of the night. Daddy didn't believe us.
- placing your nose right against the back door and door frame b/c you couldn't wait to go in the back yard
- the lap you would run after you went #2! I knew you were finished
-trying to play with Little Laci
-how you scared your Grandma, Aunt Steph, and Aunt Sharon for a surprise visit.
- you hated to brush your teeth and when mommy cleaned your boo boo on your paws.
- when I played Hide and Go Seek with you in the house.
-plopping your legs, half your body, or head on Mommy and Daddy just so you can snuggle when we were on the floor.
- loved getting in your Daddy's way if he was doing push ups or crunches from P90X
- getting a REAL bone from your dad.
-when you ate a cricket your Daddy threw at you.
-you hated flies and tried to catch them
-the white paw and white chest you had
-how your tail wagged in a circle
-placing your head on the couch or on our knee with your sweet puppy eyes.

You loved when we were sad, you loved when were were happy, you loved when we were sick, you loved when we were hurting, you loved when we argued. Some how you would make us smile at the right time to melt the angry feelings away. You loved when you were hurting. You just loved and always loved. You loved as God loves. You were our Doghter and will always be our Sadie, Good Girl, Sa Lai, Lai Lai, Sadie Lady, Red Tipped Lady, and The Lady.

For I don't know why your time with us was so short, but I do know that God intended us to have you, and you to have us. For that I know you will be waiting for me and your daddy in heaven. Some may say animals don't go to heaven, but in my heart I know the special pets that have saved, loved, and assited God's children have a special place in His heart and in His home, maybe it is Rainbow Bridge.

You will always be a Big Sister to our babies that will come. The front window is your guarding spot and we will share your story and your spot to your siblings. They will know about you all the days of their lives. I know you will be there watching over us. For your red-tipped hairs pop up at the perfect time as a reminder of your constant love.

I leave you with two poems:

The unconditional love you gave,
The friendship that we knew,
I'll plant these flowers in the
Ground for the memory of you,
And when they bloom
I'll make a wish,
And hope my wish comes true:
I'll see you at Rainbow Bridge,
Together we'll pass through
I close my eyes and think of you,
In my heart you'll always be,
And whisper that "I love your" too,
From here to Eternity
-Sue Ann McGoldrick

Rainbow Bridge Poem
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Summer Lovin

Summer just started here in our house about 2 weeks ago. I will say our house cleaning lady is not bad. She started the Monday after May 31 per request of her....it's me! That was how my first week of break started. Nothing like coming home to a clean house in my opinion.

We headed to San Diego the following week for Chris' work. I just tagged along and highly enjoyed myself. Lucked out that his boss works in this beautiful state and not in the boring mid west no offense to those of you who live or have lived in the mid west. I did a lot of quiet time in my head and I talked Chris' ear off when I picked him up.
Bon Voyage SA-Town
We stayed in the Gaslamp District the first night we arrived. Our mode of transportation for the day was a taxi, by foot, and the ferry. Coronado Island was our first objective to conquer followed by dinner downtown.
Hotel de Coronado is spectacular in it's history and by all means is was something else to see in person and not just in Disney World where I ate breakfast with Mary Poppins.

ferry to Coronado

downtown San Diego from the ferry

The first steps onto the California beach. It was as if I have always known you Mr. Beach.

The Gaslamp District at night.
Balboa Park reminded be of the Botanical Gardens but on steroids. Way big, Way more activities, and Way free to enter either to walk, run, or drive around!

Good by downtown!

Headed to Mission Beach in our new version of the muscle car, Dodge Charger. Now Texas beaches you can sit out in the sun on the beach and sweat your butt off and you would not encounter one chilly breeze blowing your way. People don't sit on the beach in their clothes. You would last maaaybe 15 minutes before you unclothe and jump into the water to cool off. NOT in California!
I loved how people just goe to the beach to hang out, walk, sun bathe, make a campfire and they are in their regular clothes. It was like in the movies, The OC, or the show Laguna Beach. Oh how it brings back wonderful college memories  with my roomies snuggled on the couch.

Clear day at Mission Beach.
I sure thought I wasn't going to last on the beach with the chilly breeze in my swimsuit, but some how lying down was the perfect amount of sun and breeze to feel as you hear the sound of the endless ocean.
This is the kind of sun bathing I enjoy, no sweat !
Hello La Jolla! You are a beauty!
Now this is the kind of beach I am talking about rock cliffs and beach below

The work week consisted of me dropping Chris off 3 out of the 5 days. I didn't have a problem to find things to do. Just look where I was! How could you not want to spend your days enjoying this beauty? However I did do some shopping at Marshalls. Of all places to shop I choose Marshalls b/c A. it has great deals B. San Diego has to have different brands and better selections and C. After watching the show Eastwood and Company I had to see it for myself. Verdict is...AMAZING FINDs at the one in Solona Beach.  I did enjoy a pedicure at Beachy Toes that is family owned and just down right adorable, cute presentation, and chic decorations. The owner is super friendly.

Beachy Toes
Chris and I did our after work exercise in Torrey Pines State Reserve. This place makes you want to work out and stay fit with views like this! San Diego has some very fit and active residence. I just love their life style. This is where I would spend my morning walks, my Thursday beach day as I walked 15-20 minutes to get here (a 2 min car ride), and our after work runs with the husband.

Let's do this!
Our trail that we loved.

It ran right along the cliffs!
Thursday we enjoyed the San Diego County fair, "Out of This World".

We watched Kenny Loggins, the Footloose theme song, Danger Zone from Top Gun, Pooh's Corner, Caddy Shack, and more. The crowd was a bit older than Chris and I okay a lot bit older. He did put on a great show though.

I missed my dad at the rides. Chris doesn't do roller coaster, and rides that spin and turn you upside down. So I had to ride them myself. Dad you are way cooler to take to the fair. Mom can go enjoy the food part with Chris that way you and I can ride the thrills.
We did the Mirror Fun House together!

I rode this sideways, upside down, flippy-turny, spinny Monster!

Children's Beach in La Jolla
Good bye seals, good bye beach, good bye cliffs, good bye perfect weather, good bye scenery, good bye amazing houses. I will see you again I am sure of this. Until then, please work on inviting your friend the sun to stay longer.
